Martin's Home Cinema Setup Welcome to my home cinema webpage. The picture below shows a pair of Mission M74 Floorstanders and a Mission Center Speaker. The speaker on the left is with the cover on, where as the one on the right is without the cover. I prefer the speakers without the covers on, but because of the cats I don't risk having the covers off. Also in the picture is a Panasonic 28" TAU widescreen television. The television produces a superb picture and I highly recommended the Panasonic units. Below the TV is a SKY Digibox and a crappy Alba Video, you don't really need a decent video player when you have a DVD player. ![]()
The picture on the right shows a close up of one of my Mission M74 Floorstanders. These speakers work very well in my setup, and really kick out some decent bass. You could probably get by without a subwoofer if you didn't real like loads of bass. I do like lots of bass so I also have a subwoofer in my system. I currently have a Sony Active Subwoofer to handle all the low down bass. It's not pictured here because it is hidden behind one of the sofa's. It's very difficult to tell where the subwoofer is when the system is on, which is how I feel it should be. At some point in the future I intend to replace the subwoofer for one more suited to my Mission speakers.
The Picture below shows the setup in my Hifi-Cabinet. At the bottom is my Sony AV Receiver, then above that we have my Sony multi-region DVD Player. Then we have a Technics CD player, followed by a PS2 standing vertically. The cabinet is quite a distance from the TV so I needed at least a 5m long scart lead. I chose to use an IXOS 141 Flat Scart Cable to connect all the equipment in the cabinet to my TV. I got a high quality interconnect because of the distance of the cable run, it also had to be flat because I needed to run it under the carpet. I have to the say the picture is much sharper than with my old cable, when the DVD Player sat underneath the TV. Just goes to prove you should never skimp on interconnects. ![]() ![]() Currently the sound from my DVD player is connected to the Amp via a Qunex P75 Coaxial Cable. I find the cable much better than my old optical Toslink cable, it has noticeably more depth and emphasis on the bass. I have also beefed up the cable to the subwoofer in the form of an Ixos 1141 Gamma Audition Subwoofer cable. I also decided it was the time to splash out and get some decent speaker cable as well. I choose to use a big cable again because of the longish runs, I opted for Ixos 603 Superstrand cable. I got the cable off Ebay for a fraction of it's real cost per/metre. I never expected the cable to be the size that it is, it is so big it only just fits in the terminals on the back of my amp, another reason why I want an Amp with banana plugs on the back. All in all I am very happy with my system, it is very bassy, which is what I wanted. The Fast and The Furious in DTS is absolutely astounding on my setup, really blows people away when I show them what DVD's are really all about.
